APR Applied Pharma Research s.a. and Labtec GmbH announce Ondansetron Oral Dispersible Film (“ODF”) is now available for licensing in Europe and selected non European countries, after having received marketing authorization in most countries of Europe.

Ondansetron is indicated for Management of nausea and vomiting induced by cytotoxic chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and for the prevention of post-operative nausea and vomiting in adults. Ondansetron is a molecule in the family of the 5-HT3 receptor antagonists and is the leading anti-emetic molecule in both CINV (Chemotherapy Induced Nausea and Vomiting and PONV (Post Operatiev Nausea and Vomiting). Ondasetron sold USD 933 Million in 2008 in the major 7 markets, 48% of the total USD 1.9 Billions anti-emetic market .

APR developed the proprietary RapidFilm™ technology which is a novel, non-mucoadhesive, fast dissolving oral dosage form based on a water soluble polymer. Placed on top of the tongue, the film disperses within seconds (water is not needed), promoting a gastrointestinal absorption comparable to immediate release oral solid dosage forms.

The Ondansetron RapidFilm® was especially designed for higher patient compliance. Considering that the target population suffer of nausea and vomiting, Ondansetron RapidFilm® offers multiple competitive advantages versus the already marketed pharmaceutical forms of Ondansetron: easier dosing accuracy, easy to be handled, stored and taken away, no need water.
